Richard "Richy" H. Miyasaka, O.D.
Dr. Richard Miyasaka (aka “Dr. Richy”) is the oldest son of Dr. Matsushima. He is a graduate of Kaimuki High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. Like Dr. Matsushima, he also attended Southern California College of Optometry, where he graduated with Summa Cum Laude Honors and was the Salutatorian of his class. He is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Hawaii Optometric Association. His optometry training include internships at Southwestern Eye Center in Casa Grande, AZ, Spark M. Matsunaga VA Medical Center in Honolulu, HI, and Southern Arizona VA Health Care System in Sierra Vista, AZ. In his free time he enjoys exercising, eating at Rainbow Drive-In, and spending time with his wife & two children.
James "Jimmy" K. Miyasaka, O.D.
Dr. James Miyasaka (aka “Dr. Jimmy”) is the second son of Dr. Matsushima. He is a graduate of Kaimuki High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree from California Polytechnic State University in Pomona, where he played basketball. He then attended Western University College of Optometry, where he received his Doctor of Optometry degree in 2013. He is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Hawaii Optometric Association. In his free time he enjoys exercising, playing basketball, and running his Menehune Sports Foundation, Menehune Basketball League, and WUCO Athletics. He also has 3 dogs that he rescued off the streets of Southern California.
He started a youth foundation for children for anyone interested in sports. He runs an adult basketball leagues and tournaments called Menehune Basketball (www.MenehuneBasketball.com) and also a youth foundation called Menehune Sports Foundation (www.MenehuneSportsFoundation.org) which has basketball leagues and clinics as well.
He also has a sports equipment and uniform company named after his dog WUCO named WUCO Athletics (www.WUCOAthletics.com).
Dr. Jimmy does sports vision therapy with the “Minihune All Stars” for his sports foundation on Sundays and does a lot of charity work for the City and County of Honolulu.
Anne K. Matsushima, O.D.
Dr. Matsushima is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the Southern California College of Optometry and has been practicing optometry for 30 years. She is a graduate of Kaimuki High School and attended the University of Hawaii prior to her acceptance into optometry school. She is a member of The American Optometric Association, The Hawaii Optometric Association, The Kaimuki Business and Professional Association, The Armed Forces Optometric Society, The Triservice Optometric Society, and the Contact Lens Section of the American Optometric Association. She is licensed to practice optometry in both Hawaii and California.
As of 2018, Dr. Matsushima has retired and is no longer seeing patients. She now enjoys playing the flute, traveling to see her third son, Phillip, taking care of her many dogs, and babysitting her grandchildren.
